Overview
Milwaukee Tool is the flagship, multi-billion-dollar brand of a larger industrial conglomerate, obsessed with the professional trade end user and known for its fully interchangeable cordless battery ecosystem and connected-tool platform. It engaged Taller to build the integration services behind its ERP transformation.
The Problem
Critical processes (order submission, inventory management, billing and invoicing, shipping) were tied to an aging Dynamics AX ERP that limited what could be extracted and integrated. The business was basically limited to what AX had to offer: custom applications it wanted to build but couldn't, manual Excel-based reporting, and little to no visibility into key processes. Left unsolved, the risks were falling behind competitors on innovation and losing customers the company couldn't keep informed.
The Solution
Taller built integration services around Oracle throughout the AX-to-Oracle ERP migration, improving business processes and their visibility along the way. The team embraced cloud-managed products and services, implemented the Saga Pattern for all long-lived business processes, and built a custom visibility framework on top of the sagas, making orders, billing, invoicing, and shipping traceable end to end with no more opaque batch handoffs. The services ran on .NET across Azure Container Apps, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Cosmos DB, and Azure SQL, provisioned through Terraform.
The Impact
The integration layer unlocked what the legacy ERP had made impossible: custom applications built on live business data (the internal service platform among them), plus a new scale ceiling as systems became more robust, and tooling that reduced engineers' mean time to repair when issues arose.
