Scaled Cloud Data Migration and Secure E-Commerce Engineering

Moving large data estates while strengthening the reliability of digital commerce systems

The Client · A Fortune 500 industrial MRO distributor

Industrial, Manufacturing & Supply Chain
01

A Fortune 500 industrial MRO distributor engaged Taller across two long-running workstreams: SAP Commerce engineering behind the transactional channel and BI and data engineering behind enterprise reporting.

02

The client’s high-touch solutions business generated billions in 2025 revenue at a strong margin, driven largely by its digital procurement experience. Beneath that experience sat a home-grown product-information system, a search-and-merchandising layer, and machine-learning-based ranking and substitution, the strategic advantage that compounded across every procurement transaction. But customers actually transacted through the digital channel itself: the client’s e-commerce site, which ran on SAP Commerce (Hybris). The client needed support in keeping that storefront secure and current, and the data behind it modern.

03

Taller supported the client’s Hybris development team (Java engineers plus QA automation) on the e-commerce site through security-vulnerability remediation (Veracode and Snyk), an ongoing microservices migration, and API development that connected Hybris to other business systems. Taller’s second workstream was a business-intelligence and data-engineering team supporting the client’s enterprise data modernization: the migration from Teradata to Snowflake and the shift from Tableau and BusinessObjects to Power BI, delivering the analytical layer that procurement decisions ran on. Taller did not operate the product-information system, the search layer, or the machine-learning ranking system; those stayed with the client’s internal merchandising and data-science teams.

04

The Hybris work resolved critical Veracode and Snyk vulnerabilities, improved engineering workflows, and strengthened collaboration across the middleware, frontend, QA, architecture, and business teams. The data-modernization work reduced reporting costs and aligned reporting to the new Snowflake warehouse. The client’s business intelligence manager gave consistently positive feedback through 2024 and 2025.
