A major global manufacturer of professional-grade power tools and accessories engaged Taller in 2021 to support its connected-products software and data platform. The engagement spanned four workstreams: ERP integration and migration, an Azure and Databricks data platform, the React and AWS Serverless diagnostics team, and EDI managed services.

As the client expanded and scaled its global sales, it rapidly outgrew a fragmented patchwork of legacy systems. To streamline operations across its many global manufacturing and distribution sites, it launched an enterprise-wide migration to Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP and supply-chain management. The post-launch stabilization phase brought three serious obstacles. Oracle’s implementation team had leaned heavily on its own native tools, leaving behind an intricate web of integrations against the client’s highly specific, granular needs across separate applications. The departing Oracle specialists left with little to no documentation, creating a steep learning curve for the client’s newly formed stabilization team. And the initial stabilization demands overwhelmed engineering calendars, leaving little bandwidth for independent problem-solving. Taken together, the client needed help to absorb the footprint the original implementers left behind and bring the new environment under control.

A multi-vendor delivery pod — Taller engineers working alongside the client’s own staff and other onshore and offshore contractors — was implemented to replace the outgoing implementation teams. Working under the client’s product owner, the engineers first reverse-engineered the undocumented environment, steadily gaining full authority over it. The technical focus centered on Oracle Integration Cloud, building real-time REST and SOAP APIs and data pipelines (the standard methods for letting separate software systems exchange data) to bridge third-party legacy systems with the core Oracle platform. A key delivery was a new automation API connecting directly to Oracle’s stock layers, letting the business team query inventory and warehouse balances in real time. To make the environment durable, the team adopted a strict documentation policy, requiring every new pipeline, patch, or component to be fully mapped so no single person became a point of failure.

The team assumed 100% operational ownership of the Oracle environment during a high-risk vendor handoff with no facility or manufacturing downtime, engineered and launched a real-time inventory-query API to accelerate supply-chain data visibility, streamlined the agile process to cut unnecessary meetings and reclaim productive engineering time, and established a responsive escalation channel that resolved production bugs affecting daily warehouse operations same-day.
