Overview
A marketing-solutions provider engaged Taller to stabilize and migrate its aging Ruby on Rails platform to the cloud without disrupting day-to-day operations.
The Problem
The client’s small internal IT team was already stretched by the platform’s day-to-day demands, and the strategic move — an Amazon Web Services (AWS) migration — was more than that team could absorb on its own. The legacy platform carried several compounding risks: Ruby on Rails technical debt (accumulated shortcuts and outdated code that make future work harder and slower), on-premises deployment constraints, and an incomplete automated build-and-deploy setup. The client needed outside engineering capacity to execute the migration without taking the platform offline, and engaged Taller to provide it.
The Solution
Two senior Taller Ruby engineers were embedded within the internal team and ran three workstreams in parallel: stabilizing the platform against its immediate operational risks, refactoring the legacy code the migration depended on, and executing the phased AWS cutover with Ansible-driven automated deployment.
