Identity Services Modernization: From Legacy Azure Functions to NestJS
Rebuilding the authentication layer of a healthcare-finance platform, clearing inherited framework vulnerabilities without disrupting account holders
The Client · A healthcare-focused financial services company providing consumer health savings accounts

Overview
The client runs a consumer platform for managing health savings accounts. It engaged Taller to modernize the identity and authentication layer of that platform: the services handling credentials, profiles, and sign-in for every account holder.
The Problem
The client's legacy identity services (credentials, profiles, and authentication flows) ran on outdated frameworks that automated scanning flagged for a growing backlog of known vulnerabilities. The internal team's time went to firefighting: triaging scanner findings, patching, and deploying, with little capacity left for the identity features the platform needed.
The Solution
Taller migrated the identity services from outdated Azure Functions into a modern NestJS-based backend, remediating the vulnerabilities the scanners kept surfacing and delivering targeted bug fixes and identity features throughout the migration. Authentication flows were modernized without disrupting the account holders who depend on them daily.
The Impact
The identity layer moved from a scanner-driven firefighting cycle to a modern, maintainable stack: the inherited vulnerability backlog cleared, reliability and deployment efficiency improved, and engineering attention shifted from security triage to feature delivery.
